Course content
Graduate course teaching applied numerical equilibrium modeling for energy, environmental, and climate economics. Covers formulating partial and general equilibrium models as mixed complementarity problems in GAMS, modeling energy supply and demand (electricity, natural gas, coal), and evaluating carbon policy instruments (carbon taxes, emissions trading) including interactions with the macroeconomy. Combines input lectures on economic theory and numerical methods with a supervised group project, in which students apply the full modeling workflow — data preparation, model calibration, scenario design, and result interpretation — to an original research question in energy/environmental economics.
